Why is Air Pollution a Global Problem?

Scientists have estimated that every day, a person who wants an average of 20,000 liters of air. Every time we breathe, we risk inhaling dangerous chemicals that have found their way into the air. Air pollution includes all contaminants found in the atmosphere. These substances can be dangerous as gases or particles. Air pollution can be found both external and internal. Contaminants can be trapped inside buildings, causing indoor pollution, lasts a long time. The sources of air pollution are based on natural and human. As expected, human beings have produced an increasing amount of pollutants over time, and now represent the majority of pollutants released into the air.

Air pollution is a problem throughout history. Even in ancient Rome, people complained of smoke into the atmosphere. The effects of air pollution are varied and numerous. Air pollution can have serious consequences for the health of humans, and serious consequences for natural ecosystems. Why is the atmosphere, air pollution can travel to distant places with ease. Consequently, air pollution is a global problem and has been the subject of cooperation, both globally and conflict. Some areas are now suffering more than the air pollution. In the city with a large number of cars or using large quantities of coal, often the most affected by air pollution problems.

The ancient Greeks and Romans, the thinking has begun to environmental science. Most philosophers made various views that other interests and protect their views in the coming years. The ancient Greeks tried for a reasonable level of understanding of nature. The ideas developed affecting the future of Europe. Thales, the founder of the Ionian school, was the founder of Greek philosophy for environmental sciences. The Ionian school in hopes of discovering the nature of the universe and how it happened. According to Thales, everything is composed of water and the combination of sun and water is the source of life.

Empedocles (c. 493-c. 433 BC) held that the universe was composed of four elements: earth, air, fire and water, then combined in different shapes and proportions to produce different outcomes and outputs. In his Memorabilia, Greek writer Xenophon (c. 428-c. 354 BC) said that planet Earth exists for people and the climate of the earth and the creatures that live there, are for the good of humanity . Xenophon said: "The earth was created by God to men. "His work influenced later Christianity. In Rome, Cicero (106-43 BC) wrote that nature must be controlled by humans. He said the land was designed for humanity, as each species is different.

On the theory of the four elements, the Greek philosopher Aristotle (384-322 BC) added a fifth: the sky. After the break with Plato (429-347 BC), Aristotle thoroughly researched the natural world. He thought the land can be divided into sections defined by the amount of heat received by each, and that people could only live in the more livable. Aristotle accepted the theory that the wind caused the volcanic eruptions and earthquakes underground. He understood the origins of rivers and create a model of rain. Teleology, who explained things in terms of scope, was an important part of the theory of Aristotle. And he did it largely reproductive research. Details historian animalium Aristotle more than 500 species, examination of the common features between species. The whole period of antiquity, the interest in botany grew because of its relationship with medicine. Many philosophers advanced several theories related to Europe in later years.

Today, there are a number of environmental problems, with all the unique causes and consequences. Some people have said that Christianity is a major cause of environmental degradation. Lynn White said the destruction of the environment can be attributed to modern Christianity. White said the biblical belief that nature, seen as inferior to people, can be controlled by man, has led to a lack of respect for the sacredness of the environment. White also seems that Christianity is largely responsible for the advent of western science and technology. Modern technology has clearly a major source of environmental problems.

The Judeo-Christian concept of nature is that it is not as sacred as the man of God, however, is considered by this group to be made in the image of God, and therefore can form nature as God intended. There are some who would disagree with this application of Christianity. Those who believe in the "management", said people should respect and not destroy nature, without making too many natural resources, and allow other animals to live in nature. Many theological thinkers agree with this version of Christianity. Calvin said the man is the guardian of the God of Earth, and has no right to exploit and destroy. In addition, St. Thomas Aquinas said that the man had a certain responsibility towards animals. Christianity also enhances the environment in some respects. For the benefit of the environment, religion encourages the care of others, including the future, and some level of respect for the environment.

There are many chemicals that contribute to air pollution. These chemicals from a variety of sources. Among the various types of pollutants are nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide and organic compounds that can evaporate into the atmosphere. Air pollutants are the sources that are natural and human. However, humans contribute substantially to the problem of air pollution. Forest fires, volcanic eruptions, wind erosion, pollen dispersal, evaporation of organic compounds, and natural radioactivity are among the natural causes of air pollution.

Usually not, air pollution is present in abundance in certain places. The pollution spreads around the world and, consequently, poses many threats. Although some forms of pollution from these natural sources, pollution is more the result of human activity. The main causes are the use of fuels in power plants and vehicles that burn fuels. Together, these two sources are responsible for approximately 90% of all air pollution in the United States. Some cities are suffering due to intensive use of chemicals that cause air pollution. Places like Mexico City and Sao Paulo are among the deadliest in the levels of pollution in the world.

Air pollution is responsible for significant health effects. Every year, countless people to health is ruined or compromised by contamination. Many chemicals in the air affect the human body in a negative and destructive. Only sick people how to chemicals depends on what you are exposed, because the concentrations and for how long. Studies have estimated that the number of people dying each year in the United States because of environmental pollution related disease could be over 50,000. The elderly are very vulnerable to diseases caused by air pollution. People with heart or lung disorders are another risk. Children and babies are at risk. Because people are exposed to many potentially harmful contaminants, it is often difficult to know exactly which pollutants are responsible for the disease. Furthermore, from a mixture of different pollutants can aggravate the disease is often difficult to isolate the contaminants that are in arrears.

Many illnesses can be caused by air pollution, without which become evident long. Diseases such as bronchitis, lung cancer and heart disease can possibly be present in all people exposed to air pollution. Air pollutants such as ozone, nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide and also have damaging effects on vital systems. It can kill plants and trees, the destruction of their leaves and can kill animals, especially fish in heavily polluted rivers. Air pollution has many devastating effects that must be controlled and restrained by prudence. To achieve this, scientists, environmentalists and governments are using or testing of a variety of methods to reduce pollution. There are two main types of pollution control. Input control is to prevent a problem before it occurs, or at least limit the effects of the process will occur. Five main methods of control inputs available.

Out of control, the opposite approach, trying to solve the problems caused by air pollution. This usually means cleaning up an area that has been damaged by pollution. Input controls are generally more effective than output controls. Output controls are also more expensive, which makes them less desirable for taxpayers and polluting industries. Current efforts to control air pollution are not very effective. In richer countries, industries are often able to change the methods to reduce air pollution. In the United States, for example, air pollution control laws have failed to stop the air pollution levels increase. However, in countries in the developing world, and even in countries where pollution is strictly regulated, there is still much to do.

In recent years, the human energy consumption has increased dramatically. The increased use of energy resources has meant increased costs and the depletion of nonrenewable resources supply. These and other factors have led people to try to use energy more efficiently. The first law of thermodynamics says that energy can be transferred between forms, but not created or destroyed. The second law of thermodynamics says that the use of heat to do the work will inevitably cause some heat is lost to the surroundings. As a result, a perfect performance in energy consumption is impossible.

For many things, and devices that use energy, maximum efficiency exists. A four-cycle combustion engine can reach a maximum of 54% efficiency, while a diesel engine can reach 56%. Steam engines perform only 32% efficiency. In fact, the engines are much worse than this, due to projects that prevent the attainment of maximum efficiency. If you include all devices that use energy, 85% of U.S. energy is lost due to inefficient use. Many low-yield devices were developed there because when the energy costs were very low. Only later, when the cost of energy has increased, no sense of being more energy efficient.

The devices that increase efficiency are often at prices higher than inefficiently. However, as it uses less energy and generally last longer devices (such as fluorescent bulbs), the devices are sometimes less efficient in the long term. Governments are trying to promote efficient use of energy for the sake of our future generations and future, which may be deprived of the opportunity for us to generate air pollutants.
